I am not in the Middle East Justin!

I am all about respecting cultures.  I mean, I try to be all about it, as much as I can.  It is definitely hard living in such a quiet country, especially for me, who was considered "loud" when living in the States.   I try though people.  I try.  Getting on the noiseless metro and not making a sound is not an easy task for me, but I have been successful so far!  OK, at least up to the point of when my friend Bandna got here.  I love friends.  She is one of those people who you just give a certain look to and then you start laughing hysterically, not realizing that everyone around is staring at you like you are a fool.  So that has happened a few times.  What are you going to do?  The other day we were on the metro and this guy bent over as…

Sick in the Snow

Today I woke up with a sore throat.  I didn’t think much of it as I continued my day as normal.  I forgot about the sore throat, but noticed I was feeling a bit more tired than normal.  I thought it could just be the super crazy sleep schedule that Justin and I have been working on getting back to normal.  My friend Bandna and I thought it would do us good to get out in the fresh brisk air and go on a walk to the Starbucks.  It is a good twenty minute walk.  While there, I started feeling worse.  The body aches and chills came over me while sipping on my drink.  Shoot.  It started to snow.  Bandna and I walked quickly home in the snow with cold chills and all.  We had purposely left our metro tickets at home thinking that we needed the extra walking since…

“The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow!” Or Not….

It is so cold in Paris!  I have never experienced cold weather for this long in my whole life.  Maybe I was this cold when I lived in Oregon, but that was so long ago that I don’t remember, or maybe I just blocked it from my mind because of how traumatic it was.   Or maybe I learned to deal with it because I didn’t walk everywhere when I lived in Oregon.  I remember still wearing my "hoochy" tank tops in the middle of winter to go to dance clubs that I shouldn’t have been going to. I was very smart in moving to sunny California as an eighteen year old right out of high school.  Tank tops GALORE!  Even in the middle of winter!!!  I thought I was smart in moving to Paris with my husband as a 26 year old.  I don’t know.  Being such a sun lover,…

Goodbye Mullet. Goodbye Forever!!!

I said goodbye to my mullet today.  I was brave people!  BRAVE!  For the last two days I have had butterflies in my stomach as I thought of the fact that TODAY I was going to get my haircut.  On Thursday I gathered the little courage I had to walk into a nice looking salon (that also looked cool on the internet) and make an appointment.  I have been researching and contemplating getting my hair done here for about two months now.  While making the rendez-vous, the lady asked for my "prenom".  I choked.  I couldn’t remember if that meant my last name or my first!  I know it should be obvious with the whole "pre" part of the word, but I choked.  About ten seconds later, she said (annoyed may I add), "NAME!"  Oops.  "Oh, Jennifer," I sputtered out turning a light shade of red.  Since that day, I…

I Can Spot an American From Across the Room… and I Did!

I went to Starbucks yesterday with my new little friend Megan.  We met there to hang out, drink coffee (except for some reason I didn’t order any), and to figure out her plans while she is living here in Paris. Can I just say that I LOVE STARBUCKS!?!?!  Not necessarily for the coffee, but for all the people I can meet there!  Love it, love it!  It’s the best place to just go and relax and meet people!  It never lets me down if I am in an extravert mood (which is about 95 percent of the time).    So toward the end of our hanging out, I look over to see a guy ordering something at the register.  He looked super familiar to me.  I was like, "Oh my gosh.  I know that guy."  He totally looked American with how tall he was, blond hair, and puffy North Face…

My Mullet is Back!

I am delirious because it is 3am and I can’t go to bed cause my hair is wet.  I know you are wondering why my hair is wet at 3am.  We went to a restaurant to eat with friends tonight and everything here is so smokey that I refuse to sleep with cigarette smoke hair on my clean sheets.  I don’t have anything to do so I thought I would post about what has been on my mind lately…my mullet.  It is true.  I have one once again!  My best friend from high school cut it in December and it was a great cut.  She did everything she could to turn a SUPER mullet, nasty cut into a cute stylish thing.  Now…it has grown back!  It is like an annoying wart that you keep picking off, but it keeps on returning bigger and nastier!  Justin picked his wart on his…

Christmas in Paris!

During our free museum day (see post below) we walked by Notre Dame to find that they still had their huge Christmas tree out in front of the church!  STILL!  It is February!!!  If anything they should have a picture of me because my birthday is this month!  Megan and I decided to pose in front of the tree!
