Inspired by Surfwise
I love being inspired by documentaries. I remember the first documentary that I watched was one on Keith Green. Justin and I watched it together after being married for two years. Watching that documentary sent us on the journey of selling our house, our cars, and eventually moving to Europe. (Of course it wasn’t the only factor in our moving to Europe, but it did play a significant role.) Isn’t there something so fulfilling about just LIVING LIFE and doing something crazy? It almost brings me to tears of excitement just thinking and writing about it! The most recently seen documentary, just watched a few minutes ago, was Surfwise. Since reading about it a few weeks ago, I knew it would probably be a film that would somehow impact how we will live our lives. The only thing I knew about the film was that it is about a large…
Read MoreCell phones dangerous for kids?
I just found this article about the risks of cell phones for kids. Makes me a bit nervous to use it myself. I think I will do a bit more research, but for the time being…. will keep my phone on speaker when they are talking to someone. Do you think the dangers are JUST when talking to someone else, or also playing games? Thoughts?
Read MorePlacenta Smoothie
Before giving birth at home, I watched my fair share of homebirth videos. As disturbing as it was to watch a woman in so much pain, push out a baby, it was almost equally disturbing to watch the placenta just fall to the floor later on. Ew. Delivering the placenta ended up being more stressful than delivering the baby. No joke. Delivering a placenta is something I never even knew about until I had to do it the first time. If all goes well, your placenta just sort of falls out after the birth (like I watched in on the youtube videos), not right away, but eventually. Well, my placenta was stubborn. Maybe it knew what was in store for it! I guess my bladder was way too full and for some reason, I had either the worst case of pee shyness or I just physically could not urinate. The…

Because I haven’t written in forever, I’m going to give a quick update of our life. -I am now 24 weeks pregnant (which is about 5 1/2 months) with a little boy! -We’ve been waiting for Maisie’s visa to be approved so we can leave for Spain (a little later than our original thoughts of being there the end of July). -While we wait we are staying with my sister and her husband and two kids in their living room on air mattress and couch. -My roots are beginning to show like crazy and I am looking pretty whiskey tango (an important to me topic). -I have no idea where I will give birth in Spain and this brings a little bit of anxiety to the mix. -Maisie is supposed to start school in Barcelona in September, but we might have to hold off on that so she isn’t dealing…
Read MoreLET IT SNOW!
(I know I just blogged about Dora, but things have turned around) There is just something SO ridiculously exciting about when you get the first good snow of the winter! Don’t you agree?? I laid Maisie down for her nap and came out to the the office/living room to find that HUGE snowflakes were falling from the sky! This seriously made me want to jump up and shout and scream and wave my arms all around. I love snow!!!! It brings back all those fun memories of growing up in Oregon and having school cancelled because of the snow! Or making snowmen with my sister or sledding or whatever other fun things there are to do in the snow! It also makes me think of Christmas and holidays, which makes me think of family. So I am sitting here, looking out these big Dutch windows, watching the snow fall and…
Read MoreI hate you Dora!
Maisie is literally obsessed with this silly little DVD I bought her the other day. It’s Dora the Explorer Super Babies! I hate it. Detest it. Despise it. Justin has been out of town, so I’ve been more chill with letting her watch tv. Well, Maisie is obsessed with babies, therefore, obsessed with this movie due to the fact that it has babies in it. Flying babies. Every morning the first thing she says is no longer, “Where daddy?” It is now, “Fly baby!?!” She only wants to watch this movie. She would literally be content watching the Dora baby movie for every waking hour of her day. And even when I put her down for nap or bedtime, she says, “No, baby fly!!!” So I have decided I hate Dora. I hate swiper no swiping. Hate it all. I don’t think I will ever buy her another Dora…
Read More“Today Is A Good Day”
Justin just read me this blog post written by a guy that spoke at our staff conference this year. It brought tears to my eyes and a lump to my throat. Here is what he has to say on his blog. Today is a good day. I don’t care if you’re a Democrat, Republican, Socialist, Libertarian, Communist, Anarchist or even a Christarchist who feels called to abstain from the whole political process. I couldn’t care less. The fact that Americans have elected a black man to be their president makes today a very good day! When you reflect on the centuries of bondage and abuse blacks endured as slaves who were bought and sold like cattle and often treated worse… when you remember that blacks were once regarded for legal purposes as just over half-human… when you consider the extraordinary illegal and immoral ways white politicians changed all the rules to keep…
