Greasy Hair

Before I left for Europe I had one of my hairdresser friends tell me that I shouldn’t wash my hair everyday because it will actually make it more greasy.  Does this apply to all hair types?  I am just an oily person.  Yes, it’s true.  So I have been trying this whole washing my hair every other day thing for a few weeks now.  Only one time did I cave and wash it two days in a row.

Basically, I just want to share how this does not seem to be working for me so far!!  My head feels like it weighs twice the amount from all the grease.  I feel sticky and yucky, even if I have showered.  I don’t know how long I can take this whole washing my hair every other day thing.  In fact, I think today will be the last day of greasiness for me.  I just can’t take it.  Makes me a feel like a dirty bird.  Maybe it would have worked in the long run, but I don’t have patience.

Now a list of things I will miss once I start washing my hair everyday:

1. How much faster showers are.

2. Wasting less water every other day.

3. Using less shampoo and conditioner.

Things I will not miss:

1. Itching my head due to who knows what.

2. Wearing my hair back because I can’t handle the way my hair feels on my skin when it is dirty.

3. Feeling really ugly and gross every other day of my life.

I’m with you, Jen. Hairdressers who say that have dry hair. If you tend toward the greasy side, washing every day is a must. I just IGNORE what they say. Otherwise, my hair is scummy!!!

Oh my goodness! I am on the same greasy roller coaster ride! My friend who is a hairdresser washes ONCE A WEEK!!! I was trying to get to every third day…she said I would love it. Erin told me the key is to rinse with hot water really well to get the oils out of your hair everyday. The other option is to just shampoo along your hairline on the non-washing days. It will help get the oils away from your face (which is where I notice the nastiness). I don’t know what your friend told you, but that’s the story I heard… Do with it what you will.

Hmmm….What happens if you work out and you sweat like a pig in heat? Does that apply? Do you not wash your hair as it is dripping? Seriously, I don’t know about that. I do sometimes go every other day IF: I didn’t put wax product in my hair the day before, or I didn’t go to the beach or work out. If your hair is super greasy, I say wash that mother and wash it good!

okay…a comment for real. i am by far, the oldest person to respond to this blog (so far), and let me tell you that i’ve been washing my hair daily for most of my life (at least since i was teenager), with exceptions of trips to third world countries and there is nothing wrong, in my opinion, to washing that grease right out of your hair! so jen, wash it and do it proudly! (i love mary’s word ‘scummy’. very appropriate for hair that is slick, smelly and dirty 🙂
