Biting Baby!

Maisie has been trying to take a bite out of crime anywhere she can.  Yes, it all started while she was nursing.  Now it is just out of control.  I was noticing that she kept trying to bite my leg while I was on my computer.  Then again while I was putting her to sleep.  I thought they were innocent little nibbles, but now I am beginning to think she is trying to communicate something to me.  Is she mad?  Does she need more attention?  Is she bored?  Maybe all of the above.  I don’t know.

I tried to say a firm, “NO”, but she just looked at me like, “Is that all you got?”  Then I tried pushing in on the side of her cheek to release the little grip her four teeth had on my flesh, but that was also a joke.  She just stops and goes back to it.  I tried out the flick of my fingers next to her mouth where she is biting me, but nothing.  She just stops…looks up at me as if to say, “Why would you even do that Mom?”…then proceeds to feast on my arm.

Any ideas for biting babies???

    Jenn,

She is at the age where teeth are starting to form, and she needs to release the aches in her mouth. The first place to release this is usually biting at anything and knawing on it forever.

Try carrots, the big ones, try black licorice sticks, try dipping the tip of a spatula in juice or syrup then freezing it. Gabby is doing the same thing. She will finish her bottle and just hold it to chew on the tip. Its pretty typical.

Hope some of those ideas help ya

Ah, the biting baby! I have had a few of those…no worries it goes away when the teeth come in! I don’t know if you have seen those little mesh things with a handle that you can put food in for Maisie to chew on and she won’t choke? Eliza loved that thing. You can fill it with apples, bananas (frozen), carrots, anything really! At least give it a try…show her that those little razor teeth are for eating food not mommy 🙂 Best of luck.

Again I say…………use the ‘Baby Safe’ feeder! I put frozen bananas, ice cube, frozen melon, apples or whatever else I had on hand for my baby to chew on. If it is teething then that might help. Also, ‘Highland Teething tablets’ work great to sooth the baby. You can find them at Freddy’s, Target etc.
As far as biting out of……..attention, can’t really help you there. Maybe you could wear hot sauce on your legs. LOL
Soon Maisie will have moved on to a new phase.

Several of the kds I have watched bite when they are starting to get their first set of molars. Maybe that is what is happening? Or maybe a whole bunch of other teeth?
