Fish Eyeballs and Other Stuff

Who ever knew I would actually be okay eating a fish eyeball? Certainly not me! I did it tonight for the first time in Barcelona. I don’t know the name (and at the moment I am too lazy to try and find out what it’s called), but it was a plate full of teeny little whole fried fish. Crazy!!! The funny thing is that Maisie LOVED them! She was eating them like they were candy! She was totally into them until about the fifth one. That’s when an eyeball got stuck on her front tooth and I laughed about it and pointed it out to the table, where there was gagging and gnashing of teeth. Well, not the gnashing of teeth, but there was gagging. After that, she didn’t want anymore. She went on to eat shrimp. I swear this kid is a better eater while in Europe than in the states. I love that about living here. Our friends that are with us in Barcelona right now keep saying she will fit in just great in this culture and I really hope and pray she does! Not only eating fish eyeballs, but also getting along with kids, learning the language, and being confident in who she is in a foreign place. I’m proud of the little nugget. She’s already been saying “Hola!” to all the people who talk to her.

And along the lines of people talking to her, I’ve been sooooooo happy with how friendly the Spanish are with children. Such a huge difference compared to our experience in Paris. Old men make faces and wave, a dude on the metro who was all tattooed up was making fart noises with her during the ride, families stop and let the babies and toddlers interact while on a stroll. It’s really great. I don’t feel like such a foreigner here, which feels really good.

Not sure if I said this on here already (it’s been a while since I posted), but as you can maybe tell, we are moving to Barcelona in July! We are here right now doing a bit of a research trip and it’s going great! Learning so much about the city and how little ministry exists here. We are really looking forward to our move! I’m not sure if I will ever brave ordering a whole plate of little fried fish, but who knows, it’s possible!

She just bit off the head!!!

    Wow, Maisie is amazing!

Good to hear you and the family are doing well and that Spain is going to be a good fit for you. I know that being away from family can be lonely and just the warm smile from a stranger can mean so much.
Keep up the hard work and dedication for the kingdom.

    Much love Cj
